A pair of colossal statues of Amenhotep III erected by that same pharaoh as part of his vast mortuary temple on the west bank at Thebes. One of the statues -- the true Colossus of Memnon--made a whistling sound when the wind passed through it and ancient Greek travelers equated it with the Homeric figure of Memnon.
