Crude oil is a mixture of hydrocarbons that exists in a liquid state in natural underground reservoirs and remains liquid at atmospheric pressure after passing through surface separating facilities. Crude oil is reported as liquid equivalents at the surface (excluding basic sediment and water), measured in terms of barrels of 42 U.S. gallons at atmospheric pressure and corrected to 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
