A parapet is a mound of earth thrown up as a protective barricade, made up of spoil removed from the ditch; often called a breastwork.

The parapet is a mound built up from the excavated earth. Ditch in front, Ditch in rear, Ditch both sides are three forms of parapet construction.

a low mound or wall to shield and protect personnel from the enemy.
