From DictionGloss

Jump to: navigation, search

A method of absolute dating that was developed by William Libbey. The method is based on the fact that all living organisms absorb carbon from the atmosphere and once the organism dies, the carbon begins to decay. Scientists can measure how many years have elapsed since the organism lived. It is most accurate for dating wood, charcoal, and bone up to 50,000 years old.
